On August 14th, Bala Consulting Engineers, Inc. of King of Prussia, PA, through its recently established affiliate, PHY Engineers, Inc., acquired certain key assets of Paul H. Yeomans. Bob Voth will serve the new affiliate in the capacity of Executive Vice-President with the same leadership team that transformed Yeomans from a second generation family business into a regionally recognized engineering establishment.
Paul H. Yeomans was established in 1945 and was a cornerstone in the Philadelphia community serving many of the local architects. Founder Paul Yeomans was succeeded by his son Robert Yeomans who transitioned the leadership to Bob Voth in the early 1990's. Under Voth's leadership, the Paul H. Yeomans Company developed a well known reputation in the engineering design of high-rise buildings by investing heavily in leading edge technology. They often competed against larger, nationally known firms.
High-rise engineering design in Philadelphia was long dominated by the larger national firms mostly located in New York. Voth, together with his team of Scott Lawson and Charles Banks, shattered that paradigm by landing and successfully completing signature projects such as:
- Comcast Tower
- PSFS building conversion to LOEWS Hotel
- Locust Tower
- Symphony House
- 1706 Rittenhouse and 10 Rittenhouse Square
Voth was looking for a strategic partner to take the firm to a regional or national level before the high-rise boom stalled as a result of the economic downturn. By joining PHY Engineers, Inc. as its EVP, he now has access to the same marketing and business development engine that has made Bala a significant national engineering firm in the Data Center design market. Additionally, PHY clients will have direct access to Bala's value added services in Structural Engineering, LEED Design, Commissioning, and Integrated Technology Services.
Bala's new affiliate will employ many of the key Yeomans' staff and will continue to service active projects, such as the 30th Street Post Office Renovation and 777 Broad Street.
The formation of PHY Engineers, Inc. fits perfectly with Bala's strategic growth plan which is based on multiple profit centers in the engineering design community. PHY will complement Bala's current profit centers in MEP Engineering, Structural Engineering, Commissioning and Integrated Technology Services.
Michael Anastasio, President of Bala, states; "An important aspect of Bala's formation of PHY Engineers, and our transaction with Paul H. Yeomans, Inc., is to continue the fine tradition of professional engineering service that has been established by Bob Voth at the Yeomans organization. Bob and his staff have been respected competitors and we are exceptionally fortunate to have them affiliated with our organization. They have helped reshape the Philadelphia skyline and will soon reshape other skylines around the country. Bala, with its new affiliate PHY, form an engineering and consulting organization that will be a substantial force in the Mid-Atlantic/NE Region with projects throughout the United States."
Bala's major market segments include Data Centers, Corporate Facilities, Higher Education and Healthcare. PHY will add High-Rise Buildings, Historic Renovation, Adaptive Reuse and Continuing Care Retirement Communities to Bala's project portfolio.
Bala Consulting Engineers, Inc is a multi-disciplined engineering firm, established in 1982 and located in King of Prussia, PA.
