Commissioning is the systematic process that provides documented evidence that critical building systems are installed correctly and operate as intended according to the basis for design, construction documents, and the owner's operational needs.

When properly completed, commissioning optimizes energy efficiency and reduces operating costs by avoiding post occupancy troubleshooting. Commissioning applies the same FDA Validation procedures, but in a less rigorous manner, to commercial offices, cGMP projects, healthcare, college/university, and other facilities.

Integrated Systems Testing

Taking the commissioning process one step further, Bala developed Integrated Systems Testing (IST). IST is a proprietary series of procedures and tests that focus on the interactive relationship between critical building systems. The IST process is used for projects such as data centers, trading floors, and other 7x24 operations.

LEED Commissioning

LEED Commissioning is distinguished by several key elements including a comprehensive rating system and a scorecard. Commissioning is a pre-requisite for almost every LEED rating level. The process requires developing a commissioning plan for testing energy consuming and environmentally related systems plus their individual equipment components.

Bala staffs an independent commissioning division of professionals that provides LEED commissioning services for projects engineered by other design firms, as well as Bala projects. Bala's Director of Commissioning has also served as the subject matter expert on LEED Commissioning for the USGBC.

Bala has provided LEED commissioning services for over 30 projects to date. Some of our commissioning credentials include the 1st LEED-CS Platinum building in the world: Crescent One, Philadelphia, PA, the 1st LEED-EB Platinum building outside of California: Armstrong World Headquarters in Lancaster, PA, and the 1st LEED-CS Gold Level, Building in Scottsdale, AZ.

Our program expertise includes:

  • LEED Fundamental Commissioning
  • LEED Enhanced Commissioning (EA Credit 3)
  • LEED Measurement and Verification Plan
