Jersey Shore University expanded their medical center o further their mission and respond to the demands of a growing community. To continue Jersey Shore’s tradition of providing compassionate care for their patients, the new facilities needed to provide a healthy environment to facilitate healing. The hospital chose the LEED-NC requirements for design and were able to achieve a LEED-NC Gold Level certification for the project.
Bala provided LEED-NC Enhanced Commissioning services for the Medical Center expansion. This first step in their five year expansion program included two new facilities; a 120,000 SF, 4-level Diagnostic and Treatment Building and a 216,000 SF, 4-level Northwest Pavilion. The Northwest Pavilion includes an emergency department and trauma center, a 36-bed shell floor for future growth, a four-story diagnostic and treatment building, housing support services, six surgery suites, new sterile processing department, and a kitchen/dining area.
The medical center also developed a modular 17,000 SF childcare facility on the north-east corner of the campus. The building was designed with kids in mind, being highly graphic and designed with child-scaled spaces and equipment. The interior spaces are highlighted with a rich color palette that also serves as a way-finding system, helping the children to locate their classrooms. In addition to the classroom spaces, the facility also includes a kitchen pantry, office spaces, and a two-story multipurpose room.
