As part of the overall upgrades of Conley Terminal and to increase port efficiency and modernization, Bala acted as a sub-consultant to GEI/Bourne Engineering and worked closely with the overall design team, including Massport, to understand the needs and functions associated with the new Berth operations and integration with existing Terminal Berths.

Design began through communications with Massport Authority to understand needs and functions associated with new Berth operations and integration with existing Terminal Berths, dry and refrigerator container storage, highmast pole lighting, longshoreman activities, and wireless network operation throughout the existing Terminal and new Berth.

Given the age of the existing berth, the Bala team was researched and reviewed nearly 40 years of record documentation associated with Terminal and surrounding roadways properties. Utilizing this historical data, the Bala team provided solutions that aligned with the phased strategy of the project for a more efficient and timely project delivery including the design of a wireless network operation throughout the existing terminal and new Berth. A series of electrical infrastructure projects were provided related to Berth 10, including both Westward and Eastward expansions.

With a fully functional Berth 10, the Port of Boston is expected to double its capacity, with an ability to handle large shipping container at a larger capacity and an ability to welcome more diversified service carriers.
