The University of Pennsylvania and University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine) engaged Bala to perform multiple site assessments to determine the optimal location for their new Data Center.  Bala performed a two year IT Data Center Strategy Consultation, working with a team of University IT leaders representing Central Services, UPenn’s twelve schools and various centers to frame a strategy for a shared Data Center.  This included framing the future vision, supporting set of documents and identifying and evaluating alternatives.

Bala also performed a Feasibility Study and a Conceptual Design for a new Data Center, a shared facility for the Health System (Tier III) and the University (Tier II) on the South Bank campus.  The Study reviewed options for building types, locations, systems options and capital costs.

Bala provided complete MEP/FP, structural and ITS engineering design for the University’s ISC department’s new Data Center on the Pennovation Campus.  This included both the original Data Center and the expansion phase in the Pennovation Center.  The interior portion of the Data Center is designed for conventional average density (5kW/cabinet range).  An outside environment is planned for future high-density expansions, accommodating 20 kW/cabinet densities in a modular deployment.
