This sustainable retail company moved its flagship store to a brand new building on Race Street to accommodate for its growing clientele. The store includes a retail shop, cafe and dining area. Bala helped the store achieve LEED Platinum Certification. It is the only retail building in the city with LEED Platinum certification.
Due to company’s reputation for being an environmentally-friendly retailer, the store wanted to achieve the highest standard of energy certification.
The process took over two and a half years and Bala inspected all the building systems including the variable refrigerant flow (VRF) system, energy recovery unit, auto-temperature control kitchen exhaust unit, domestic hot water system, space lighting controlled via daylight sensors, occupancy sensor and timer-switches.
Not only are the systems high-efficiency but the infrastructure includes slate from the chalkboards of Philadelphia’s public schools and chestnut beams that were from a barn in Maryland built in the 1700s.
